Smells Like Soul

I recently saw the Macy’s ad promoting Beyonce’s line of fragrances. In the ad, they spoke of how it smelled like soul. The first thing that came to my mind was did smelling like soul mean smelling like pig’s feet? If so I hope it isn’t the pickled variety, because that has to be one of the foulest smelling edibles that I can imagine. But then again maybe it smells like okra or collard greens. That would be better but still why would you want to walk around smelling that way? They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach but I have a tough time imagining Beyonce walking around smelling like collard greens and pig’s feet.

maybe cracklin, the crispy bits of fried pigskin that put mass-produced pork rinds to shame. i imagine that a cracklin-scent would be really great for getting the guys in a frenzy, but then the ladies would be left high and dry as their hot-and-bothered beaus take off in pursuit of fried pork products.

or maybe they’re using “soul” as a euphemistic way of saying that it smells like dead people, which i suppose would be handy for trying to get a necrophile in the sack, but at the end of the day, you’re not going to win any hearts by trying to give people something they don’t want, yanno?
